My decision to become a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) came after many years of questioning what to eat to achieve optimum health for my body. As a child, I was a fussy eater with a poor appetite and ate a very limited diet as a result. This laid the foundation for the hormonal imbalance issues I started suffering as a teen.
By the time I was an adult, I realised something had to change and started seeking answers to help with the digestive symptoms I was also experiencing, which were exacerbated by stress. The solutions I found were short term and I continued to struggle with hormonal imbalance issues which continued to worsen. By the time I turned 40, I was so used to blaming my hormones for my issues, but by this stage I had accepted them as ‘normal’. I never made the connection that my hormonal issues weren’t ‘normal’ and that my symptoms of hormonal imbalance stemmed from my diet and lifestyle!
I see many women like me struggling to navigate perimenopause, who are constantly stressed and busy juggling their many commitments - family, work, community and a household. I am passionate about good nutrition and helping women find their way back to good health and feeling like themselves again!
An FNTP supports your health and wellness with a nutrient-dense, whole-food nutrition approach as well as lifestyle support while supporting nutritional and physiological deficiencies through the foundations of digestion, blood sugar regulation, mineral balance, fatty acid status and hydration.
We use a deep foundational and bio-individual approach to functional, holistic nutrition to
balance body chemistry and achieve optimal wellness. FNTPs also perform a Functional Clinical Assessment (FCA) that allows us to evaluate the nutritional imbalances and deficiencies at both the body system and organ level that are unique to you and create a tailored set of recommendations designed to support your health and wellness goals. The FCA is a specialised assessment tool that taps into the body's innate wisdom and helps the practitioner identify the body's healing priority and specific individual support.
An FNTP will conduct an initial assessment based on your initial paperwork which includes a NAQ (Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire) and Food and Mood Journal and make recommendations in line with your goals.
FNTPs often work alongside licensed practitioners to support a doctor's diagnosis and other therapies. However, an FNTP is not trained to provide a medical diagnosis, to prescribe or treat any medical or pathological condition, illness, injury or disease, and is not a replacement for a medical doctor.
" Just as you ought not to attempt to treat eyes without head or head without body, you should not treat body without soul " - Socrates
The body, mind and soul are all interconnected. In order to truly heal and to be in good health, it is important to focus both on nourishing the body and the soul. The name 'Soma and Psyche' is derived from Ancient Greek. Soma means body while psyche means soul. The gut is often called 'the second brain' and we know the effect that stress can play in our bodies. With this knowledge front of mind, I approach health from a truly holistic perspective, addressing not only diet but lifestyle and emotional factors as well.
